Terra Cognita - First Graphite Moves into Saskatchewan 20km from Strike Graphite’s TSXV:SRK flagship Deep Bay East
By Greg Klein
It’s often said that closeology ain’t necessarily geology. But First Graphite’s TSXV:FGR Henry Project in north-central Saskatchewan could lay claim to both. It’s about eight kilometres from Noble Bay Mining’s Deep Bay Graphite Project and 20km from Strike Graphite’s TSXV:SRK flagship Deep Bay East. As for Henry’s geology, it was a curse back in the day when graphite was considered waste rock. The stuff was unavoidable. click here to read the article

The Next Rare Earth: Graphene
One Word, Benjimin: Graphene
By Christian DeHaemer
Monday, March 12th, 2012
When you think of a strong material, wood, concrete, or steel probably come to mind... But they fail in comparison to the superior properties of graphene. For those who don't know, graphene is a single layer of graphite, one atom thick. That's right — it's the same material that's in your pencil tip. But it is a pure material with unprecedented strength: ten times stronger than steel and six times lighter. It can also conduct electricity, and therefore can be used as a transistor. And that's just the tip of the iceberg for this material of the future. First, let me tell you the amazing story of how it came to be... click here for the article

Ahead of the Herd
In 2010 a European Commission included graphite among the 14 materials it considered high in both economic importance and supply risk. The British Geological Survey listed graphite as one of the materials to most likely be in short supply globally. The US has also declared graphite a critical material. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the State Department, said America could be hurt if terrorists were to disable graphite mines in China. click here to read the article

Stockhouse Movers & Shakers: Why graphite is suddenly sexy
Investor interest is driven by export restrictions in China, (the producer of roughly 70% of the world’s graphite) and speculation that an already growing market will be spurred on by demand from new applications, including lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells and nuclear reactors.
Those demand and supply-side factors have helped to drive up the price of high quality flake graphite from a floor of $600 per ton in the 1990s to $2,500 per ton in 2011, setting the stage for a trio of Canadian companies to raise $47 million for graphite projects last year. click here to read the article
